James Santoro, Owner-Operator

Jim has owned and operated Safeguard Pest Control since 1979. Jim was raised in the foothills of Tuolumne County and entered into the pest control industry early.  He moved to the Fresno area and spent many years in the industry there.  He moved back to the foothills to raise his family, this time relocating to Amador County and opened Safeguard Pest Control in the fall of 1979.  When he first opened his office he was located in Martell next to where Jon's Pit Stop is currently located.  Upon outgrowing his office space in 1986, he moved his office to a building on the grade dropping into Jackson.  We remained there for 14 years and moved to our current location in May of 1999. He has over 40 years in the pest control industry and has seen many changes, all of which benefit you the customer, our number one priority.  When you combine Jim's years in the industry with that of his current employees, you get over a century's worth of reliable pest control service experience at your service!

We continue on a daily basis to strive to maintain the level of service our customers have come to expect but more importantly deserve.  We all live locally and therefore have an inherent understanding of the area.  Our goal is to provide the best pest control service in the foothills and feel that the longevity of our employees speaks for itself.

Pest vs Beneficial
We often hear terms pest and beneficial used to describe insects and other organisms, but what exactly do these terms mean? The best definition of "pest" that we have heard is "a living organism in a place where it is unwanted:. "Beneficial" is normally used to define an organism that is helpful from a standpoint of humans. It also depends on which human we are talking about, because we all have our own ideas of when something is a pest? A spider in the yard is usually considered beneficial, but a spider in the bedroom probably wouldn't be. Some of the common organisms that most people would consider to be pest are ants, spiders, cockroaches, fleas, mosquitoes, rats, mice, flies, yellow jackets and earwigs. A short list of normally beneficial organisms would be ladybugs, preying mantis', spiders, bats, lacewings, dragonflies, leather-wing beetles, numerous parasitic wasps, ant-lions, Dobson Flies, solpugids, bald-faced hornets nesting away from the home, snake flies and damselflies.
